Each tool owns one handoff: mechanical truth in CAD, visual and mesh cleanup in Blender, IoT-aware interaction in Unity, and immersive review in VR.

    SolidWorks

    Mechanical source of truth

Modeled pumps, panels, and lab rigs as parametric assemblies with mates and BOM-friendly parts. Exported STEP/STL for downstream tools while keeping revision notes so IoT placement points (sensor mounts, cable paths) stay aligned with real hardware.

  2. 02
    Blender logo

    Blender

    Mesh cleanup & scene prep

Imported CAD meshes, fixed normals and scale, decimated where needed for realtime, and applied PBR materials. Organized collections by subsystem so Unity could swap variants (normal vs fault state) without rebuilding geometry from scratch.

    Unity logo

    Unity

    Classroom twin runtime

Built the interactive smart-classroom twin: world-space labels on lab equipment, animated flows, and UI panels driven by live or simulated MQTT/JSON feeds (pressure, flow, temperature). ScriptableObjects mapped device IDs from the physical classroom to scene objects so new sensors in the room could be reflected in VR without rebuilding the scene.

    VR / Mixed Reality

    Immersive review & training

Deployed the Unity build to a VR headset for room-scale walkthroughs: operators see telemetry attached to the correct asset in 3D, trigger maintenance steps, and validate layouts before touching physical kit — the same IoT backbone as field telemanagement work.

Overview

Smart Classroom Digital Twin mirrors a real teaching lab: physical hardware in the room, IoT on that setup, and a 3D copy that stays in sync for learning and demos.

SolidWorks captures the real classroom equipment, Blender prepares realtime meshes, Unity runs twin logic and telemetry, and VR lets students and instructors walk the smart classroom before touching live kit.

Problem

Smart classroom tech is hard to teach from slides alone — students need to see where sensors and equipment sit in the room, with live data, in a safe virtual copy of the same space.

Approach

  • →Defined a four-stage export contract between CAD, DCC, engine, and headset (naming, units, pivot points).
  • →Mirrored ORMVA-style telemetry patterns with mock and live feeds into Unity UI and world-space labels.
  • →Authored maintenance scenarios (normal, warning, fault) toggled from data thresholds.
  • →Validated performance budgets for standalone VR (draw calls, colliders, baked lighting where possible).

Stack

  • Smart classroom digital twin
  • SolidWorks
  • Blender
  • Unity
  • C#
  • MQTT / JSON IoT feeds
  • VR (Unity XR)
  • Git

Outcomes

  • Smart classroom twin pipeline documented: real room hardware → synced 3D environment
  • One scene where classroom IoT drives both dashboards and the virtual lab layout
  • VR demo for teaching and review inside the digital twin of the classroom
